Daniel grew up on a dairy farm 10km north of the rural town of Barham in the South West Riverina NSW.

Daniel achieved well at school and participated in a number of extra-curricular  community activities such as community radio, debating competitions and sporting activities including, little athletics, jazz ballet, tennis, squash and indoor cricket.

Daniel’s world was turned upside down when at age 16 he lost the majority of his eyesight over a couple of months due to a rare genetic condition.

After dealing with the initial shock and devastation of the loss of his sight, Daniel received support from a number of people that enabled him to adjust to the way he performed everyday activities such as study.

Daniel said “I was initially unsure about how I would complete my school work, whether I could maintain the high standards I set myself and whether I could continue my involvement with sport.”

Daniel went on to complete his HSC and was honoured to be elected as School captain and subsequently obtained a place at Charles Sturt University to study Physiotherapy.

Whilst in Albury Daniel was introduced to the game of blind cricket. After playing his first game in 2007 Daniel went on to represent the ACT at the 2008 national championships.  In 2010 Daniel travelled to Barbados to represent Australia in a blind cricket series versus West Indies. Daniel also participated in the 2012 Blind Cricket World Cup in India.

Daniel has completed his physiotherapy degree and is currently working in the Albury/Wodonga region.

Daniel has also attended space camp at NASA, been skydiving, completed ‘the blind challenge’ of riding a tandem bike up Falls Creek, completed the Nail Can Hill run, the Fed Hill challenge and currently completes in local triathlons.

Daniel is passionate about equal opportunity and advocacy for the rights of people with a disability and about helping individuals to push their limits and achieve their goals.
